Hour of Grace

This penitential hour of prayer was requested by Our Lady through her reported apparitions to Sister Pierina in the 1940s. Blog-posts at CatholicDaily.net/SocietyofSaints that relate to this Hour of Grace were posted on 23 Nov 2011, 27 Nov 2011 and 8 Dec 2011. The PDF below has 2 A4 pages which when printed will form an A5 brochure.

Patron Saint for the New Year

It has been an ancient tradition in the Church, particularly in religious orders, to choose a patron Saint for each year. This is in addition to the Saints you were named after, the Saint you chose as a special patron at Confirmation, and the Saints who have become life-time friends and confidants or who have been chosen as the Patrons of the parish, school or other organisation you might be involved in. Reading the diary of St Faustina shows that this tradition was alive and well in her day, because she was very pleased when she drew 'Blessed Sacrament' out of the hat one year.

This tradition became our tradition after reading Sister Emmanuel's book 'Medjugorje The 90's', first published in 1997, and in particular the chapter for October 25, 1994 called 'A Pal from Heaven.' Early on the 'patron Saint slips' were taken from Sr Emmmanuel's book and given to friends and family - but nobody bothered to cut them up and put them 'in the hat', so we ended up doing them for everybody. Hopefully there will be some who read this page who will print some out, cut them up, fold them twice into a square, and secure them with some see-through easily-torn sticky tape like Magic Tape, and put them into a hat, bucket or container for family, friends, co-workers, parish and prayer group etc.

Currently we have 24 pages of these patron Saints slips, so they have been divided into groups of 4 pages each (A,B,C,D,E and F), and each page contains slips for 12 Saints. That way, theoretically, you could print the A pages this year, and the B pages next year etc, and thus be assured of getting a different patron Saint. Blog posts from CatholicDaily.net/SocietyofSaints that go into more detail and explanation about the many Graces which have come from this tradition are 29 Dec 2011 and 01 Jan 2012 and 27 Dec 2012. Make sure that you don't print these PDFs double sided !!!

The faithful should encourage the sick to call for a priest and to receive the Sacrament of Anointing CCC 1516

This is our duty as believers. To help you encourage a friend, family member etc to receive this really helpful sacrament, the following short article is provided. It is reprinted from ‘Ave Maria’ January 2006 issue, which in turn was reprinted from ‘Totus Tuus’ Bulletin July 1991, and gives a personal account of Maria Baroness von Trapp's near death experience and of how beneficial she found the Sacrament to be. (It is short : one and a half A4 pages)

An invitation to all from Pope Francis

How can I help my loved one open up his / her heart to Jesus? One way is to give them a copy of this invitation from Pope Francis, given in the 3rd passage of his Apostolic Exhortation Evangelii Gaudium. Firstly it says how much Jesus wants to encounter them, secondly it gives a very simple heartfelt prayer, and lastly it reminds the reader how great God's mercy is and what joy is to be found in Him. Again, the document below is an A4 page containing 4 copies of this invitation. So please print them out and share them around - and if you are bold enough leave some in places where people gather who don't usually get to hear God's good news.

For Married people and all those contemplating marriage.

The PDF below contains the best information on how to live out married life in a way pleasing to God, and the best information for preventing relationship difficulties in marriage and for getting a marriage in crisis back into happiness. Read it. Live it. Then share it with those couples you care about.

Each married relationship goes through peaks and troughs, and both are necessary for our happiness. If we only stick around when times are good, and we feel emotionally warm and fuzzy, then that is not love. Love is doing the best thing for the other, whether you feel like it or not. When people marry they often wish they could do some grand gesture to prove their love for their spouse. It is when things aren't easy between you, that you get to fulfil that desire, and to prove your love by patiently riding out the rough patch together. Studies have shown that if a couple can stay together through a rough patch, then they will be happier together than ever some 18 months or so later.

Notes from a parish mission with The Catholic Guy

These notes are a summary of much longer talks, and are only one person's version of how they heard these talks. They were compiled because quite a lot of people who attended had difficulty hearing the presentations. Of the four talks, the first one was on acting in faith, the second one was on surrendering things to God, the third one was on forgiveness, and the last one was on developing daily spiritual disciplines.

Quotations to inspire you to pray the Rosary more regularly

These were compiled during the Year of the Rosary (2002-2003), and the wisdom in them is timeless. Sharing them is one way of honouring the Mother of Jesus on her birthday 8 Sep 2015.

Holy Door for the Year of Mercy

Jubilee years come around infrequently, for example the Holy Year of the Redemption 1983-4, the Holy Year of the Incarnation 2000, and now the Holy Year of Mercy 8 Dec 2015 - 20 Nov 2016. In a Jubilee year the floodgates of grace are opened for all those who go on pilgrimage to a Holy Door and who fulfill the necessary conditions. Because they come around infrequently, it is easy to forget what to do. To make it easier to fulfill those conditions, here is a pamphlet to download, A4 double sided and tri-fold.

Intercessions : Mary, Mother of the Church

This memorial, for the Monday after Pentecost, was initiated in the pontificate of Pope Francis, so it is relatively new, and many of the liturgical books do not yet have a set of intercessions to go with the proper for the Mass. The following A4 page could be used for those intercessions.

Invitation to a Young Man

On 13 Jul 2022 Dr Jordan B. Petersen issued a challenge to churches to invite young men back to church. Released on YouTube it has already had more than 1 million views as at 31 Jul 2022.
Therefore there’s a good chance you have already watched that 11 minute video clip.
If you haven’t, the link is below:
https://youtu.be/e7ytLpO7mj0

Dear young man who is considering walking back into a Catholic Church after an absence, or perhaps for the very first time, there is absolutely no doubt that we need you; and there is absolutely no doubt that God has plenty that He wants to do in and through you, but it won’t be easy at all.

There’s a lot of stuff you need to know...

The short version is

Be prepared: do as much research as you can before you show up.
Be patient: this is for the long haul, and it will be many months before mutual trust begins.
Be neat and tidy: as you would for an official family photograph, or a visit to a grandparent.
Be sober: you want all your senses functioning properly.
Be early: aim for a minimum of 15 minutes before start time.
Be open: there is so much that you don’t yet know, and things God may gently ask you to give up.
Be willing: to be gracious if someone asks for help; and to grow in the awareness of the needs of others.
Don’t be afraid.

The long version has 7 x A4 pages long. Download it below:

Intercessions: St Mary of the Cross MacKillop

Celebrated on 8 August as a solemnity in Australia and as a feast in New Zealand.
She was canonised in Rome on 17 Oct 2010, so many liturgical books have yet to provide a set of prayers of the faithful to go with the Mass proper and Readings for this solemnity/feast.
The following A4 page could be used for those intercessions.
